Who we are
SIGNUM is a hard rock band from Germany. The band was actively recording and performing from 1985 to 1993 before the members went separate ways.
Now, 30 years later the core members reunited to pick it up again and continue the journey. Musical influences range from classic rock, AOR, 80's hard rock and even elements of progressive metal and metalcore. Out of this SIGNUM creates a new unique and synergetic rock style of its own.
While always mixing their own compositions with cover versions when performing live, todays’ SIGNUM is designed as a progressive rock project that gives the opportunity to pursue different musical styles as well as asking different talented musicians to contribute to the road to rock.

History
SIGNUM was founded in 1985 by Guido Hild (g/voc), Bernd Dombrowski (b) and Dirk Abendroth (dr). They became known through a number of concerts in North Rhine-Westphalia and through their participation in the Radio Gütersloh compilation of 1992, where they were featured with their song "Dying in the Streets".
In the early years Chris Schneider was on keyboards, later Matt König replaced him. While Guido was also the vocalist at first, later Kelly Norton took over the vocals along with Phil Brown.
In 1995, they parted ways due to musical differences and Bernd focused on his work as a producer with his studio dBe Audio. Some impressions from the early years can be found here.
From the original founders of Signum, Bernd played in several cover bands in the past, such as “B Sharps” and “Wohnzimmersoul” and currently - amongst other assignments - is bass player in “Roadcrew” and "Souldfood". Dirk is to this day playing local gigs with “De Pöttkes” as their drummer. Guido performed a few gigs in non-public events with former colleagues from university acting as "LWF Band".
In 2019, the founding members decided to revive the group. The first release "A Personal Thing" contains 6 songs originally written in 1993, but completely rearranged. The album title not only refers to one song of this EP, but also stands for the spirit that brought this project to life: It was a personal concern to re-record some of the compositions written at that time.
As particpants and contributors for this project, Dennis Kaiser (vocals) and Florian Pritsch (keyboards) could be won over. Florian is known as a longtime member of the Deep Purple tribute band "Demons's Eye" and now launching music under his own name, whereas Dennis was the former vocalist of "“Stories in a pocket”.
Releases
The first release was the song “Dying in the Streets” on a compilation from Radio Guetersloh, launched in 1992 (ProTrax Recordings).
The first release of the new era in 2022 is “A Personal Thing”. Recorded and mixed at the studio dBe Audio in Guetersloh it contains 6 songs originally written in 1993, however arranged completely new. Amongst others, also "Dying in the Streets" is re-recorded on this album. It was a personal thing for the founding members Guido, Bernd and Dirk to redo some of the old, hence the title of the EP. Currently SIGNUM is creating the next release "A Pharaoh's Tale", which will be a conceptual album of new material - more powerful and synergetic rock embodied into a comprehensive musical and lyrical story. The first Single "Pharaoh's Tale" has been launched in late summer 2023.
